Nicole could never figure out why Max's mom, Helene Carr, hated her. Before she could win her future MILs love, Max's mother died of cancer in her early fifties. This spiraled into a series of simish changes. Max's Dad, Daniel, could not handle being alone and remarried single mom Mary-Sue Pleasant only month's after Helene's death.
